Ground Noise and Static…No sir, those are VETS!

John McCain’s Voting Record

**** UPDATE ****

It has been pointed out that there was more than just one protester. The protester in this video shot was not the Vet (Adam Kokesh). Adam apparently was holding up a banner and was also escorted out and was later interviewed about the hasty exit. Now, I get why some folks are crying foul, but McCain blew it…he had a moment there where he could have stolen the election, if he had be gracious, but instead he chose to be honest. As far as anti-war protesters go, McCain has no use for them, probably hates them (like most republicans do) and for a guy who needs to shore up the middle section to win an election, calling people who dissent with him “ground noise and static” isn’t exactly going to win the hearts and minds of Independents.

I wonder for the number of visitors to this page today who have professed support of McCain, have you gone out to the voting record link? have you actually LOOKED at what your candidate votes for…because honestly, I don’t care what a person says if it contradicts their actions (and in this case their votes).

**** END UPDATE ****

To McCain, a Vet trying to be heard is “ground noise and static”…now, he couldn’t have known that the protester was a vet (bad luck that), because for the past 3 days, the republicans have done a concerted job trying to convince America that they love Vets…that John McCain is a great Veteran Hero and that anyone who says otherwise should be taken out back and pistol whipped. And yet, if you actually look at McCain’s voting record on Veteran Affairs you will notice he’s no particular friend to Vets…or even service members for that matter (remember the Webb GI Bill??)

I don’t care if you vote for McCain, just don’t vote for him because you think he’s a great American who believes in taking care of those who sacrifice the most for our freedoms, because that is a bold faced lie.

  1. Actually, McCain’s comment was in response to the Code Pink lady as she was shouting before she got taken away.

From what I saw, the protesting vet was being polite and not shouting, just waving his banner.

  2. VETS? Really? I’m a vet, and if they were vets, then they were engaging in rude “ground noise and static.” It ’s that what all Stalinists do when they try to silence the voices of those with whom they don’t agree? They should them down from the galleries of time.

  3. Excuse my typos above. You people so disgust me with your “veteran” claims that my finger don’t function. Tell me now, what are they veterans of? Let’s have some documentation for your claim please.

  4. Whether you think McCain’s comments were about the lady or the vet, the voting record doesn’t lie. McCain is no particular friend to veterans…but I’ll give you his comment may have only been directed at the anti-war protester (of course, saying that her opinions were ground noise and static shows what he intends on doing once he’s elected President)…and honestly, America is over Bush’s wars.

  5. People like you always want to see the DD214s, like even if you saw that I was honorably discharged, you wouldn’t care that I disagree with you.

You do understand that it was the GOP delegates that were trying to silence HER voice right? To your logic, that would make the GOP the “Stalinists”. Not saying I disagree with that, just making sure we’re clear.

  6. His name was Adam Kokesh and he served in Fallujah in 2004.

  7. The “veteran” had the opportunity to be heard at the Democratic Convention.
Real Veterans will show respect for other’s opinions and will act accordingly. I’d like to know what branch she served with. I’d bet she’s just another screen beret.
How many Republicans tried to silence the speakers in Denver? If she really wanted to protect free speech, she would have encouraged McCain to speak….not try to silence him.
    Liberal logic just doesn’t work.

  8. Ok, wait…so you’re saying the GOP doesn’t want to hear from any veterans?

The only place for Vets to air their grievances is at the Dems Convention?

Are you sure you want to say that?

Maybe what you want to say is that you don’t want to hear from anyone who doesn’t tote the party line, which is fine (and true), but don’t act like McCain is a great hero and friend to vets…if we concede the first, that doesn’t mean he gets the second on spec…he has to earn it and vote it and McCain hasn’t. So you can be proud all you want, but you’re voting for a guy who couldn’t care less about your or my vet status.

  9. I think when he said ” don’t be diverted by ground noise and staic”, it was because that message popped up on his teleprompter for HIM not to be diverted. he thought it was part of his speach and read it aloud.

  10. Ok Todd,

That comment made me LOL for 5 mins…and in all likelihood is the God’s honest truth!

  11. No. The Republican Convention had numerous Veteran speakers. All were well received.
The place to defer from “toting the party line” is not on the floor of the convention. That’s why parties have primaries.
In the primaries, votes were cast for many parties, all have conventions of some sort, and each promoted their agenda. The Republicans didn’t storm the Green Party convention to display any difference of opinion. Are you implying that the “veteran” who tried to disrupt McCain’s speech was a Republican who should have been addressed in that forum? It’s the Republican’s party. They should be allowed to convene without outside interference. That’s just good manners and common sense.

  12. So, proud vet, basically you’re saying, the only thing that YOU want at the GOP convention is whatever has been pre-approved and is authorized and if anyone else has a message that may diverge from that message they should be dismissed. Right?

I mean someone earlier on this thread called the Dems Stalinists, but it would seem that what YOU are after is much more authoritarian or totalitarian in nature.

what is McCain afraid of? can he not handle dissent? I mean I don’t think he can, neither could Bush which is part of the problem.

What is it about republicans that makes them so afraid of dissent?

  13. Republicans are not afraid of dissent. Dissent is what makes our country so great. We allow and promote it. That’s the process we need to enforce the freedoms we enjoy.
The argument isn’t against dissent, it’s HOW you dissent. Disrupting a political speech shows an intolerance for differing opinions. Shouting someone from a stage is the opposite of embracing free speech. Only those whose opinions cannot stand open debate resort to such tactics.
If the arguments against McCain’s policies are strong, they will be validated in the election. If his opponent’s positions cannot be promoted without intolerance, they prove their weakness.

  14. If Republicans aren’t afraid of dissent, then why were Bush’s town hall audiences always vetted?

You should go back and look at how Lincoln had to debate…there were PLENTY of shouts from the floor, but whatever. You want to pretend republicans are ok with dissent, that’s fine. We’ll see. Just like we’ve seen for the past 7 years.

Can you not even say his name? Barack Obama…I call McCain by his name, I usually even show him the respect of his title (unless he does something REALLY stupid)…but I digress, you’re right, we’ll see what we see.

Regardless, you are welcome to come back anytime you want and dissent against what I may post…I enjoy the “ground noise and static” ;)

    Regards!
    Pete

  15. Vet or not, the comment regarding “ground noise and static” really hit a cord with me and my husband. The comment made us feel that McCain thinks that he is better than some people and that he is not willing to listen to people that have views other than this own. They are just ground noise and static.

And as far as the message coming up on the teleprompter for him to say. I hope he is able to use his own brain and decide that maybe he should rephrase the comment before it came out of his mouth.

  16. When people are brainwashed, they are put in one mode only. I’m an independent, because that’s the only way I feel free. I’m able to stand in the middle and see clearly both ways. It’s pretty sad that we have to be divided and labeled, but I guess it’s what works best for some.

I’m not surprised about senator Mccain’s remarks, he’s such a rude man. He seems fixed and if you disagree with him, he gets up an leaves you there. He just happened to show the nation his intolerance, arrogant nature and his inability to be humble. His ways are dangerous in the international arena. As far as the convention, most of their speeches were about evil, showing clips of terror and accusations, but what I didn’t see was effectiveness for a whole as it was clearly excluding and dividing.

Anyhow, if you see protesters as rude and not as ordinary people who feel the frustration and the need to be heard by the party’s members and the nation, since I don’t see other ways they can do it; I mean, the media doesn’t belong to the people anymore, so in my opinion, they saw the opportunity was there and took the risk, besides why did they let them in?

My point is, why instead of showing who is the better person, the experienced politician and the perfect candidate to lead our country without distinctions, he opted to use such demeaning words. He could just take the perfect opportunity given to show what we fight for in the world is, DEMOCRACY. So, people, stop making excuses and start by leading by example, if he really believes that America wants us to stop yelling at each other, then take the first step and stop dividing the country by attacking and accusing on national television.

BTW, this is not clearly a good tape to go by. It cuts to the candidate and doesn’t show how they handled the protesters, but what you’re able to see is Mccains’ reactions, frustration as he makes some facial expressions that seem to me as if he wants to throw a fit, but he knows he can’t. After the protesters are taken out, he regained his composure and as if he was hosting a SNL show, he proceeded to talk giving the impression that Mike Meyers has seen the future when he created his Austin Powers’ Characters. Groovy…
